Using The Learning Resources Centre
In the designated Learning Resources Centre we aim to create an inviting and stimulating environment to encourage children to develop their abilities in reading and research via a range of different media. There is a selection of fiction and non-fiction books which pupils may borrow – up to four books for two weeks at a time. We aim to make sure there are texts and resources available to support all the subjects studied in school and the Learning Resource Centre is equipped with ICT to ensure all students have access to the internet during the day.
The Learning Resource Centre supports events such as World Book Day and helps to highlight festivals such as Diwali and themed weeks, for example: National Science & Engineering week.
The Centre is open to students every lunch time and after school for choosing and exchanging books. At lunchtimes and after school on Mondays and Wednesdays, it is also a place where pupils can be supported to do their homework, or use the reading materials.
We use a system known as “Alice” to manage the Learning Resources Centre and take a digital reading - which is totally secure - of pupil’s fingerprints in place of library cards.
Currently there are a number of new books being added to the system and we are constantly striving to make reading an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
Mrs Evans runs a stationery shop, when the Learning Resource Centre is open at lunchtimes, where pupils may buy essential stationery items at reasonable prices:
Handwriting pens from 30p
Pencils 10p each
30 cm rulers 30p each
Highlighters 45p each
Pencil sharpeners from 20p
Erasers from 5p
Suggestions for other items that should be available are always welcome!
