ICT

Computing at Gamlingay Village College draws on the expertise and knowledge of the ICT Department within the Stratton Educational Trust. Our IT Co-Ordinator, Miss Gardner,  has worked for Stratton Upper School since 2009 and has been involved in the development and teaching of computing at Gamlingay over the last few years.

Our goal is to raise standards of achievement across the whole ability range and to meet the needs of all our pupils. We aim provide a cohesive and challenging curriculum that spans KS2-KS5, making sure that the teaching at KS2 and KS3 prepares pupils for upper school and is complementary to the teaching at KS4 and KS5. There are many challenges we face to achieve this goal, however, knowing our pupils  and providing them tailored lessons, that are inspiring, creative and challenging for all, will help us achieve it.

As a middle school, we aim to provide our pupils the skills they need to prepare them for their future, this may be in the latter years of their education or beyond. The facilities we have at Gamlingay provide pupils excellent access to the latest hardware, operating systems and software available. We have a dedicated ICT suite of 28 PCs and there are other ICT facilities available for use around the school.

Our curriculum is based upon the National Curriculum and is adapted to best fit our pupils and be relevant in this technological age. Pupils will get a variety of different experiences, from writing code, web design, creating graphics to making the best of Microsoft Office. We also want our pupils to understand the need for E-Safety and we make sure that all pupils understand where they can go for assistance.

At Key Stage 2, we focus on making sure that pupils have a good grounding in how computers work, the technology that is around them and how we’ve got to where we are now. We will also try to develop a basic understanding of the programs within the Microsoft Office Suite.
