2017.06.30: Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents & Carers

It seems difficult to believe that it is only a week since we were enjoying blazing sunshine, but even a return of colder weather has not hampered the wide range of curricular and extra curricular activities on offer.

Head Students 2017-18
We held our traditional hustings assembly this week for 8 candidates from Year 7 who put themselves forward for the Head boy and Head girl positions for next year.
Following our election process and a formal interview with the Charlotte and Alfie (our outgoing head students), I am pleased to announce that GVC’s head students for 2017-18 will be:

 Head Boy: Joshua Johnson
 Head Girl: Angel Price

Many congratulations to our two new head students and they have already been presented with their purple school ties ready for next year. Thank you also to those students who put themselves forward as candidates. Their speeches were well thought out and planned – and the voting was a close run thing!

Sporting Success

The GVC athletics team achieved great results in the recent school sports games held at Bedford athletics stadium. Our Year 5 and 6 athletics team finished in a highly creditable 8th position overall.
Our Year 8 rowing team made the podium with a very impressive 3rd place finish in the relay. Medals were awarded to all participants in the relay rowing team. All students loved the experience and thanks to Mrs Phillips for organising and Mrs Luck and Mr Daisley for taking our GVC team on the day.

Library Books
A reminder from Mrs Evans that all library books need to be returned before the end of term. We would be grateful if pupils and parents could look in bags/under beds – anywhere where school library books may be hiding!

Whole School Trip to Thetford Forest
Letters have been released today for the whole school trip to Go Ape at Thetford Forest. I would like to place on record my huge thank to the Friends of GVC as well as to individual donors who have ensured that we are able to offer this trip completely free of charge to all pupils. It promises to be an amazing day out and I am already looking forward to challenging my own fear of heights!

Thank you as always for your support for Gamlingay Village College.  If there is anything you would like to discuss please do not hesitate to contact me via Miss Gabbitas-Smith on the main school number or by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. Yours sincerely

James Birkett
