2017.06.16: Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents & Carers

We have enjoyed some wonderful weather this week and it has been rewarding to see our field so well used in lessons and at break times.  A particular highlight has been the Year 6 pupils using lunchtimes to host their enterprise activities.  We have seen raffles, car washing, nerf challenges and of course a range of delicious refreshments for sale.

Activities and events for the rest of this term
I very much hope that this will be the definitive list of dates for the rest of this half term, although with so much happening, it may not be possible to guarantee this.
One significant decision we have had to make is that we will not run a full school production this year.  This was not an easy call to make, but we are very conscious that we should only undertake events where we can be certain the end product will be of the usual GVC high quality.
This is obviously an end of year like no other, and as such there would have been very little opportunity to rehearse as a cast, we therefore had to take this difficult decision.
We will be including some musical interludes and a celebration of pupils work in the Year 6 and Year 8 graduation assemblies.

Play Scheme

The hugely popular and award winning Play Scheme will run at GVC over the summer holiday from 7th August to 11th August.  All pupils have already been given booking sheets and spare forms are available from the school office.  There are still some spaces for this year’s Play Scheme  still available.  Completed booking forms can be returned to Mrs Wright at any time.

Football Trials
Mrs Phillips has found an opportunity for pupils in the Under 12 and Under 13 age groups to attend trials with the East Cambridgeshire Football Academy.  The trials are to create a team to play in the Nerf Junior Premier League and will be led by coaches with experience with Arsenal and Wolves.  The relevant dates are 20th, 22nd, 27th and 29th June from 6.30 – 7.30pm at George Lambtons Playing Fields in Newmarket.  To book a place please contact Paul Jones (academy manager) on 01638 66879 or e mail:  This email address is being protected from spambots. Staffing News
We say a final farewell to Nicola Richardson who has worked in various roles at GVC since 2009.  Most recently Nicola has been the PA to the Headteacher, covering for Miss Gabbitas-Smith’s maternity leave.  Nicola will return to Stratton full time in her substantive role as PA to the Deputy Headteachers.  I know that all at GVC will thank her for her hard work and wish her well for the future.
We are of course pleased to welcome back Miss Gabbitas-Smith, who will resume her role as PA to the Headteacher from 19th June.  She will work on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Thank you as always for your support for Gamlingay Village College.  If there is anything you would like to discuss please do not hesitate to contact me via Miss Gabbitas-Smith on the main school number or by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. Yours sincerely

James Birkett
