2017.05.26: Letter from the Headteacher
Dear Parents & Carers
It has certainly felt much more like summer as we complete the first half of the final term of this academic year. I hope that this remains the case during the holiday and I wish our pupils and their families a relaxing and refreshing break.
Silence for Manchester
We observed the silence for Manchester at 11am on Thursday 25th May. Thinking about these events can be frightening for everyone and especially so for young people. Form Tutors have been speaking with their groups about these events and have been using a range of resources to support our pupils. If parents would like further advice regarding how to talk to their children about such events, there is a useful article on the BBC website:
World of Work Day
Our World of Work day ran very successfully thanks to Forward Gamlingay and Form the Future. I am very grateful to the volunteers who gave up their time to support the pupils in a range of challenges. Photographs from the day can be found on the school website.
Year 8 Transition
The next stage in the transition process to Stratton Upper School will take place in the weeks following half term. Staff from Stratton will visit Year 8s in lessons, look at their work and we will of course be keen to show off the excellent progress that pupils have made and our immaculate behaviour for learning.
Following this, on the 26th June, teaching staff will deliver a day of Year 9 lessons at GVC, so that our students can experience the structure and format of lessons in a range of subjects.
Potton Cricket Tournament – what a difference a week makes!
It seems hard to believe, but only one week ago the cricket tournament was postponed due to torrential downpours. Our cricket team finally played in the tournament on Thursday in dazzling sunshine. We conducted ourselves with great credit and congratulations to all concerned. Photographs available on the website.
Vocal Group Trip to London
Also on our website are photographs from the Vocal Group trip to see “Wicked” in London. Our Vocal Group have given a range of amazing performances during the year (including songs from this show) and I’m sure enjoyed seeing the West End performance! It was also very pleasing to hear that members of the public commended our students on their impeccable conduct throughout – another reason to be incredibly proud of GVC.
We look forward to welcoming staff and pupils back to school on Monday 5th June – in the meantime, enjoy the sunshine!
