2017.05.05: Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents & Carers

Year 6 SATS Examinations
We wish all of our Year 6 pupils the very best for their SATS next week and I would like to record just how proud we are of every individual.  They have worked hard on a consistent basis and feel confident of achieving their potential next week.  We will aim to make the week as enjoyable as possible and will ensure that we conduct the exams in the same way that we have structured our teaching all year – no pressure but plenty of purpose.  As a school we will enjoy the experience and see the tests as a chance to celebrate all that our children have learnt.  If you have any questions at all about the tests please contact Mrs Luck for English, Miss Hankinson or Miss Allen for maths and myself for more general queries.
A final reminder that it is essential that every pupil in Year 6 attend every day next week.  In case of an emergency, which may make this an issue, please contact the school and we will be able to advise on possible contingency plans.  The now traditional Year 6 visit to Gamlingay Woods will take place on Friday 12th May.

World of Work Events

As mentioned previously, we are proud to be hosting two special events organised and funded by the charity Forward Gamlingay and run by Form the Future based in Cambridge.
There will be an assembly on the 19th May to introduce the theme and a full day for pupils in all year groups on the 23rd May.  During the event, pupils will have the chance to learn about a wide range of possible careers and see how their education could link to a range of different jobs in the future.  We aim to make the day interesting, inspiring and aspirational!

Summer PE Fixtures
Summer athletics fixtures will take place on Wednesdays after half term.  Mrs Phillips will liaise with the pupils and parents included on a fixture by fixture basis.  In order to accommodate the Wednesday fixtures, Tennis club will now move to Tuesdays after school.  This will begin next week on Tuesday 9th May from 3.40-4.45pm.

Friends of GVC Disco
A reminder that there is a disco for pupils on Friday 12th May from 6-8pm.  Tickets are £3 and can be purchased from the school office.  Refreshments and glo-sticks are available to purchase on the night.  Mini Club will not run on the 12th and obviously the disco is only open to pupils who currently attend GVC.

Thank you as always for your support for Gamlingay Village College.  If there is anything you would like to discuss please do not hesitate to contact me via Nicola Richardson on the main school number or by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. Yours sincerely

James Birkett
