2017.04.28: Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents & Carers

Despite the cold weather we are enjoying an excellent start to the summer term and pupils in all year groups are working hard to achieve great outcomes by the end of this academic year.

Year 6 SATS
We are now in the final stages of preparing for the examinations and I know that children in all year groups will support our Year 6 pupils as they prepare for glory!
A separate letter has gone out today for parents and carers of all Year 6 pupils which details the plans for the dates of the 8th-11th May. Lessons for other year groups will of course continue as usual, although there may be some changes of staffing for lessons in order to ensure that Year 6 have their English and maths teachers at hand to support them.

“We Will Rock You”

The GVC Vocal Group will perform on Saturday 29th April at 7.30pm as part of the cast of Stratton’s “We Will Rock You” school production. Tickets are still available and can be purchased from www.ticketsource.co.uk/strattonupperschool or can be purchased at the door on the night.

Sainsbury’s Active Kids Vouchers
It is the final week for collection of the Active Kids vouchers, available with your shopping from Sainsbury’s. If you do have any vouchers tucked away somewhere, we would be grateful if these could be sent into the school office. We always use these vouchers to good effect and Mrs Phillips has been able to purchase a range of equipment under the scheme.

Friends of GVC – Bag 2 School Clothing Collection
The Friends of GVC’s fundraising efforts continue apace, and please note that all funds will be spent on the pupils who are currently at the school.  Particularly, The Friends are trying to provide a whole school trip in the summer at minimal costs to parents.  To this end, if you have any spare clothing, please return it on Tuesday 9th May 2017 to the bike sheds at the front of school.  For items that can be accepted, please see  www.bag2school.com
Donations can be accepted in the bags provided before Easter or alternatively in any other carrier bag or bin bag. Thank you in advance for your support.

I am sure parents will be aware that this Monday is a bank holiday, so school will re-open on Tuesday 2nd May.  I wish all families an enjoyable and relaxing May bank holiday and I hope we enjoy some warmer weather! Thank you as always for your support for Gamlingay Village College.  If there is anything you would like to discuss please do not hesitate to contact me via Nicola Richardson on the main school number or by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Yours sincerely

James Birkett
