2017.04.21: Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents & Carers

Welcome back to the summer term at GVC. I trust that families enjoyed a relaxing break over Easter and I know that pupils have arrived back at school well refreshed and prepared for a great term ahead.

Bring Your Books Home
Thank you to all for the positive feedback regarding the opportunity to look at your children’s work over the Easter break. There is clearly much to be proud of and it is great to see the progress that children are making across all age groups and throughout the entire curriculum.
The majority of books and folders have arrived safely back in school, but if you do find any work lurking at home, we would appreciate it if you could make sure that it comes back to us!

Year 6 SAT Examinations

A final reminder that SAT examinations will take place on the 8th to 11th May 2017. Could parents of pupils in Year 6 please be aware that attendance on these dates is vital and that medical appointments should be avoided.  If your child is very ill on the day, please contact the school and we can advise on contingency options.
It sounds a strange thing to say about examinations, but teachers and pupils actually seem to be looking forward to the tests. We are very proud of how Year 6 are preparing, and their practice papers show steady improvement.  Thank you also to all parents for your support at home.
If you have any questions regarding the specifics of the SATS please contact Mrs Luck for English and Miss Hankinson or Miss Allen for Maths. For more general enquiries, I would be more than happy to speak to parents personally.

Year 8 Transition to Stratton Upper School
We will continue our programme of transition over this term. This will involve pupils visiting Stratton for tours and activities as well as staff visiting us at GVC. The aim is to ensure that pupils are well set up for personal, social and academic success once they begin their Upper School education in September.

We Will Rock You
An advertisement for the Stratton Upper School production of “We Will Rock You” which is taking place on 27th to 29th April 2017. This promises to be a spectacular production and tickets are available from  www.ticketsource.co.uk/strattonupperschool

Thank you as always for your support for Gamlingay Village College.  If there is anything you would like to discuss please do not hesitate to contact me via Nicola Richardson on the main school number or by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

Yours sincerely

James Birkett
