2017.03.03: Letter from the Headteacher
Dear Parents & Carers
World Book Day 2017
We enjoyed an incredible World Book Day with many staff and students dressed as a variety of characters from literature. Photographs can be found on the GVC website. We also held a “drop everything and read” session, in which the entire school community engaged in silent reading of their current book for 20 minutes.
500 Word Short Story
We are delighted that over 70 pupils submitted entries to the BBC Radio 500 word short story competition. There was work on a variety of themes from stories about time travel to abstract work written from the perspective of animals and even inanimate objects.
The creativity, craft and sophistication of the writing has been a joy to read – and the judging process very challenging!
Our runners up in the competition were Lucy, Luke, Cate and Lucas. The overall winners were Beth and Connor. Congratulations to our winners and all who took part!
Year 5 Film Premiere
On Wednesday 8th March Year 5 will be presenting the world premiere of their 20 minute film
“El dorado”. This will take place in the school hall and friends and family are invited to attend. Mrs Luck has arranged for this to be a red carpet event and we are working fiendishly to ensure that our organisation exceeds that managed by the recent Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles!
Year 8 Parents Evening
Year 8 will have their Parent Consultation with subject teachers on Wednesday 15th March. Separate letters have gone out which provide details of how to make appointments and parents are reminded that it is useful if children are able to attend with them on the evening.
